Special screening of Iwo documentary

February 19th marks the 76th anniversary of Marines going ashore on Iwo Jima, the beginning of the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history; Tuesday, the 23rd, is the anniversary of Joe Rosenthal’s famous picture of the flag raising.

In honor of the anniversary, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation will offer an exclusive look at the documentary “Iwo Jima: From Combat to Comrades.” A special thanks to Arnold Shapiro Productions, the film will be available to stream on the Foundation’s website only on February 19 – 23, 2021. Academy Award winning filmmaker, Arnold Shapiro, will discuss his Iwo Jima films at a future Joe Rosenthal Chapter meeting. Shapiro says, “I’ve made three films on Iwo Jima; I’ve been on Iwo seven times from 1984 to 2015. I’ve interviewed a few dozen men who were in the battle including some Japanese survivors.” Shapiro is on the USS Joe Rosenthal Advisory Board.
