Leatherneck earns award for support of blinded veterans

The Twenty-Fifth Annual Blinded American Veterans Foundation Congressional Awards Reception honored Leatherneck–Magazine of the Marines with the 2010 Carlton Sherwood Media Award for the magazine’s support of blinded veterans. The Honorable Bob Filner, D-Calif., Chairman, House Committee on Veterans Affairs, The Honorable Gus Bilirakis, R-Fla., and the Blinded American Veterans Foundation hosted the awards reception at the Cannon House Office Building, Washington, D.C.

John Fales, a Vietnam War, combat-wounded Marine and president of the Blinded American Veterans Foundation, and Carlton Sherwood, a Marine Vietnam War veteran, noted for his often biting and controversial writing, presented the award to the Leatherneck editor, retired Marine Colonel Walt Ford.
