Denig Memorial Dedication Set

The official dedication of the Brig. Gen. Robert L. Denig Sr. Memorial at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Quantico, VA will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday November 17.

Former winners of the USMCCCA’s prestigious Denig Award will be invited to attend the dedication.  A no host luncheon will follow at the Globe and Laurel Restaurant.

The handsome black granite memorial is the first of its kind at the Museum to honor Denig, his “Demons” from World War II and all who have told the Marine Corps story since.  It is located in Semper Fidelis Park very close to the Semper Fidelis Chapel and adjacent to Puller Point.  The edifice, a project of the USMCCCA Foundation, is being paid for by members, former members, as well as friends and relatives of some of the original Denig Demons.

Surrounding the Memorial will be 78 engraved bricks saluting those who have served in the 43 and 4600 occupational fields, or who have contributed to the Memorial in some way.  There are approximately 23 bricks remaining to be sold.  The Memorial Committee has announced that July 13 is the cutoff date for bricks to be engraved and placed in time for the dedication.  The remaining bricks will continue to be sold but their placement will be at a date following the November 17 dedication ceremonies.

Bricks may be purchased by going to the www.usmccca.org website or by contacting Executive Director Jack Paxton at CCHQ either by phone or at usmccca@clf.rr.com.  The individual bricks cost $300 and can contain up to three lines of 20 characters each.
