Our National President, Dan Clare, DAV Chief Communications and Outreach Officer informs us:

DAV is currently searching for a highly motivated and creative individual to join our team as an Associate National Communications Director.

Job Summary:

This position will help improve the lives of disabled veterans and their families by ensuring cohesive messaging and consistent branding between departments across a wide variety of media. By serving as an integral link between the organization’s outreach and fundraising efforts, the Associate National Communications Director will be a key asset in nationwide campaigns, celebrity ambassador coordination and high-profile special events.

The position will include travel and the opportunity to work directly with disabled veterans to tell their stories in unique and creative ways.

Candidates should satisfy all requirements to become a member of DAV.

Essential Functions:

Assist in coordinating marketing and outreach activities between DAV’s Communications and Fundraising Departments
Assist in setting and implementing the public relations agenda for the DAV National Organization, serving as the primary liaison between DAV and contracted public relations agencies.
Serve as a member of interdepartmental teams responsible for successful execution of special events and outreach initiatives.
Coordinate outreach with celebrity ambassadors.
Assist in the scripting, editing and production of DAV PSAs.
Assist in creating brochures, fact sheets, position papers, posters, and other materials in support of DAV initiatives and functions.
Serve as a member of the editorial team that produces DAV Magazine.
Research and write content for DAV National Directors, speeches, and talking points.
Assist in analyzing and executing the DAV social media strategy through prescribed platforms.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or a writing-based discipline in the liberal arts; however, in the absence of a degree, must have comparable combination of experience and training.
A minimum of three years practical experience in the marketing or communications field is preferred. This experience should include public relations.
Must possess exceptionally strong talent in written and verbal communication.
Solid interpersonal skills are necessary in dealing with public officials and other ranking persons.
Extensive computer skills – MS Office applications, basic knowledge of HTML, other web technologies, and social media platforms.
A demonstrated ability to work independently, and meet deadlines under pressure.
Position requires the physical ability and stamina to perform under mental stress.
